A yummy gift

Tomorrow my cousin I. and her husband W. will be celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary. In fact they’ve already celebrated it in May with their closest family (parents, brothers and sisters). At the time, we had a previous engagement and therefore missed the big event. Now, they want to make up for it, especially as my mother is my cousin’s godmother.

So tomorrow they’ll be picking us up around 11.45 a.m. to have lunch … somewhere. Where? We have no idea. It’s supposed to be a surprise. They are both fine gourmets, so we have rather high expectations. There are a lot of excellent restaurants at less than half an hour drive from where we live. It’s hard to tell where they will take us.

As it is customary to bring a gift when you’re invited for lunch or dinner, especially when it’s a festive occasion, my mother and I went out yesterday morning to get something special. We visited a shop that only recently opened it our village. It offers an amazing assortment of goodies from southern France and Italy, ranging from exclusive olive oils, pesto, tapenade and dry pasta, to colourful paper napkins, cups, candles, kitchen towels, some cute kitchen utensils and cutlery. They also have a nice range of fresh coffee beans, tea blends, biscuits, marzipan, ….

A bright red colander filled with gourmet food!

It’s a gourmet Alladin’s cavern! My mother and I both skipped in and – with the help of the charming hostess - put together a selection of yummy goodies. I hope I. and W. will appreciate it. If not, I'll gladly keep the stuff for myself!

I can't wait to hear about the mystery restaurant. The gift basket is super and I'm sure both gourmets will enjoy it.
