… is good news. Well, that’s what they usually say!
I have been a bit absent lately, simply because there is nothing special to report. My ‘big move’ is imminent, and I’m stressing over the fact that the decorator still hasn’t started work. My new kitchen cabinet is scheduled to be delivered and installed on Friday March 4th, and the wall against which it is supposed to come, has to be stripped and wall-papered before it can be installed.
And then last Saturday my new landlord, after installing the super new dishwasher – Siemens, probably the best brand in the world – announced that he wanted to put in a wooden floor in the second bedroom, identical to the one I’m having put in in the master bedroom, so that they would match. Now this is what I call really GOOD news!! It’ll look so much better and give the apartment and my new living space some real added value.
However, this good news slightly messes up my plans, as the second bedroom was the only room, except for the bathroom, where I could temporarily store some of my stuff before the actual move. As the new floor will only be put in in ten days or so, I’m stocking all my moving boxes in my current second bedroom.
My current apartment is a real mess. I’ve already made three trips to the container park, getting rid of a lot of old stuff. Some items are hard to throw away as there are so many nice memories attached to them. And then I have tons and tons and tons of books which I’ve bought over the years. I’m going through them, selecting the ones I really like and am liable to read again. I will donate the others to our local public library. I’ve already called them, and they said that they will gladly accept all donations. The books they don’t want or already have will be sent to a nearby prison. They asked whether I would object to that, but I see no reason why. Can you think of one?

I'm sorry to hear your move is so stressful. Moving is a particular challenge in a person's life. I suppose one just has to live through it and then take a long well-deserved rest.
Try to think of it this way, in one month, it will all be over. And in two months, you'll write a really funny post talking about the "crazy" move.
Good for you for getting rid of so much. I think that you have me beat.
Your Friend, m.
A good clear-out is always a positive thing, Martine. Bon courage.
Martine,
Books, CDs or records, furniture, etc are all good friends from the past and offer memories.
This is a very exciting time for you and another journey. How boring not to have change in your life.
Did that make you feel better - I hope so. Go for it girl.
Good luck with the books - it can be a wrench, can't it? With new books, I tend to decide whether to keep or dispose as soon as I've finished reading, but as for the old ones....
And about the prison: why worry, as long as you're not giving them "Burglary for Fun and Profit" - and even then, I expect the proper authorities will decide what's appropriate or not.
Olga, In April, when everything is well behind me, I will be taking a short vacation, simply to enjoy being in my new home!
Mark, I can't afford spreading the de-cluttering over 365 days like you, as there are only three weeks to go! I hope there will be enough fun stories to tell about this 'crazy' move.
Ken, I can use all the encouragement I can get. :)
Leon & Sue, Actually it did! Thank you.
Autolycus, My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't want to start a new crime wave.
