Wilmaaaa, where are you!?

During our 1995 stay on the northern coast of Brittany - also know as 'La côte de granit rose' - we were impressed by the wild and almost pre-historic feel of the place. There were some nice sandy beaches, but the best part of the coast line was lined with gigantic boulders of dark pink granit. You almost expected to find Fred Flintstone there, working on the back of his dinosaur, shifting rocks and boulders around, before returning home yelling "Wilmaaaa, where are you?". (Wow, that brings back memories! Did you watch the Flintstones in the sixties?)

So, and because a picture can paint a thousand words, here are some photos of those very peculiar beaches. In real life the boulders actually had a pinkish glow to them, but with the time the photos have somewhat faded.

I hope you'll enjoy them anyway!

    Brittany is very pretty. I spent 3 weeks in l'ile Tudy learning how to sail when I was 11 years old and spent many summers in "l'ile d'Yeu". In l'ile Tudy, a really old fisherman was one of the last few that had done the Cape Horn route a number of times (pre huge tankers era, airplanes and the Panama canal).

    Leon, Brittany is definitely worth a visit. There is a big difference between the north and the south coast. The north is rougher and wilder, while the south has a more gentle feel to it. However, food is great all over: crêpes and gallettes like you like them, gorgeous sea food and a large variety of fresh vegetables.

    We have had many wonderful holiays in Brittany. It would have been Nick's first choice as location for a holiday home but property is much more expensive there. Luckily it's only a couple of hours' from our little corner of the Loire so we can still satisfy his need for a fix of the seaside occasionally !!

    Leon - I can vouch for the seafood and the galettes - scrumptious !

    Jean, Brittany was my first choice too ... until I discovered Amboise! For now, it's just my favourite holiday destination, but I hope that one day ....

    Nadege, Thank you for the link. The name Finch sounds slightly familiar, but I don't think I've ever seen any of his work.
