Silent Wednesday

July 2009
Seen in the Belgian Gaume region, near the French border:
a hollow tree has been turned into an original bus shelter!
Looks like something out of a fairy tale, doesn't it?

The creator must have been inspired by the Hobbit.

Dedene, That sounds like a plausible explanation!

How imaginative. And judging by the moss on the roof, it's been there for some time.
You'd never get things like that in the UK. Either it would never meet our stringently applied health and safety regulations, or the local yobs would have hacked it to bits or burnt it down. Very few places in the UK have the civic pride that you find in France and also, obviously, Belgium.

Jean, Your comment surprises me as I was always under the impression that the English had a lot of respect for their heritage. Well, that's the feeling I had in the seventies when I visited England every summer. Maybe things have changed since then! Martine
