Big day!

I interrupt my Corfu travel report to let you know that TODAY's THE DAY!

 Corfu sunset

Yes indeed! This afternoon at 3 o'clock I have an appointment with the notoraries handling the sale of my mother's house. I'll be meeting the proprietor-to-be and we will be signing the deed which makes him the new owner as of this day.

Funny coincidence, on this very day in 1977, we attended the furneral of my paternal grandmother from whom my parents inherited the house.

I will be handing over the keys and all the necessary documents, after which the house will be his for good. No turning back ...

I'm sure it will be an emotional moment. Even when I'm typing this, my eyes are getting misty with tears. I hope I will be able to keep them dry this afternoon. Wish me luck!

P.S. My next post will be about Corfu again ...

Good news Martine but I do appreciate why it will be emotional for you. Best of luck with the signature process!

That's one less worry for you and your mother, but it's natural to have very mixed feelings about it. Still, I think a celebration is in order afterwards. Congratulations on the sale!

It is understandable that you are emotional as this is the end of an era. Thinking of you, but you made the only decision open to you and it was certainly the right one.

Hope everything went smoothly ( it's nearly 8 PM in Belgium)
Put it this way : Less worries but a lot of memories for you.
This is a turning page for both you and your Maman.

Hope you kept your composure yesterday! Now that this is settled, you probably feel some relief.

Very much hope all went as well as possible. Such a big step when the house has been in your family for so long and I am sure you had to bite your lip when the time came. Hang onto the happy memories and the knowledge that your mother is safe and content in the new place.

Congratulations on finalizing the sale. Was your mother glad or sad?

Thank you all for your support. The whole procedure was really smooth and quick and ... most important ... I didn't make a fool of myself by bursting into tears. The two notaries were very kind and professional. I got a ride in my lady notary's car: a blitzy Audi sports-car, which she drove with great expertise and a heavy foot! Wouldn't want one myself though, not with my bad back! Getting into it wasn't too difficult, but getting out wasn't easy. Luckily I was wearing trousers ... wouldn't want to try it in a mini-skirt! ;)

My mother took the whole thing rather serenely. In fact, I think was relieved that the whole thing was over and that the new owner didn't object to the house not being empty. He will take care of that himself. On Thursday work started and on Saturday I saw they were ripping out the kitchen. And right now I can hear a lot of drilling and banging ... The guy isn't wasting any time, because he wants to move in in October! More to come, I' sure ...
